The Ozone Sector Changes on July 1, 2024

Ozone is approved as an active substance under the BPR.

A historic moment for the ozone sector in Europe.

On July 1, 2024, ozone officially becomes an active substance in accordance with the BPR.

What does this mean?

  • The ECHA recognizes ozone as a biocide.
  • Companies selling ozone generators must meet specific requirements starting July 1, 2024.

  • The ozone market will be regulated from that date.

What requirements must companies meet to sell ozone in Europe?

  1. The company must own an active substance dossier or purchase an access letter from the established consortiums.

  2. The company must register its products in the countries where it sells ozone and pay the necessary fees before July 1.

  3. The company must comply with specific efficacy and safety requirements for each usage type: TP2, TP4, TP5, TP11.

What happens to ozone generators that have not been registered before July 1, 2024?

  1. They cannot be sold in Europe.

  2. If already installed, health authorities may require their removal.

Of course, ZonoSistem meets all the requirements and owns the active substance dossier.

This major change will primarily benefit end customers and professional companies that have always supported a regulated sector committed to efficacy and safety.
